All Saints C of E Primary School

English

At All Saints CE Primary School we are proud to offer the pupils a text rich learning environment where imagination and creativity can be fuelled. Through the English curriculum, we help pupils develop the skills and knowledge that will enable them to communicate effectively and creatively through spoken and written language and equip them with the skills they need to become lifelong learners

Through reading in particular, pupils have a chance to develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Literature, especially, plays a key role in such development. Reading also enables pupils both to acquire knowledge and to build on what they already know.

Writing provides a key to unlocking a pupil’s success in education, enhancing their performance across the curriculum, and providing a means for initiating and maintaining connections as members of our school and citizens of the wider world. At All Saints our writing is stimulated by high-quality texts, through which, pupils have a chance to explore the mirrors of their lives; the windows to their realities; and the sliding glass doors inhabiting the realities of others; inspired and guided by the written word, pupils learn about the lives of those whose experiences and perspectives differ from their own to develop emotionally, culturally, spiritually and intellectually.

We aim for pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate, to an audience, the spectrum of human emotion and intent, and are encouraged to use the written word to help make meaning of their lives.

We realise that God’s fullness for us is shown in the gift of creation. This first value takes us back to God, the giver of abundant life. Now more than ever, our call to steward God’s creation is of upmost importance: not least to our young people. We focus on creating a community in which all are known, valued and given space to thrive and find abundance. From that secure base within a safe environment, we encourage our children to look out to the world with compassion. With the skills they have learnt, they can take the abundance of their education out to life beyond our school grounds, with the confidence to speak out and excel.
