Personal, Social, Health and Economics
At All Saints, our PSHE curriculum is woven through everything that we do in school and closely linked with our three core Christian values- Compassion, Community and Creation. Our PSHE curriculum develops learning, and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills, enabling children to access the wider curriculum, work collaboratively with others and make a positive contribution to the life of the school. Through our PSHE curriculum, our children will learn how to become healthy, independent and responsible members of our society. Children will build a relationship with themselves, learn about their emotions and be taught how they can be conscientious members of our community and the wider society. Our PSHE curriculum will develop the ‘whole child’ by teaching them how to be both physically and mentally healthy, how to build positive relationships, how to self-regulate and how to respect our common humanity, diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning.
The children are encouraged to be leaders from a young age, through both our core PSHE curriculum and our wider focus on leadership. They are given lots of opportunities to share their voice with other pupils and school staff, for example by becoming a Play Leader, House Captain and IT or office assistants in addition to becoming a member of the Green Team or School Council.
We focus on three core themes for PSHE: ‘Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Relationships’ and ‘Living in the Wider World’, which together ensure that all statutory requirements are met, including those for health and relationships education. Together, they encompass all areas of our PSHE curriculum and through our long-term plan we ensure that all essential knowledge is coherently and sequentially taught.
We realise that God’s fullness for us is shown in the gift of creation. This first value takes us back to God, the giver of abundant life. Now more than ever, our call to steward God’s creation is of upmost importance: not least to our young people. We focus on creating a community in which all are known, valued and given space to thrive and find abundance. From that secure base within a safe environment, we encourage our children to look out to the world with compassion. With the skills they have learnt, they can take the abundance of their education out to life beyond our school grounds, with the confidence to speak out and excel.
