Science

At All Saints, we recognise the importance of science in every aspect of daily life, and aim to foster children’s natural excitement and curiosity about how things work. In line with the National Curriculum, our scheme of work focuses on developing scientific knowledge alongside an understanding of the nature and methods of science, through science enquiries that help them to ask and answer questions about the world around them. The intention of our science curriculum is for disciplinary knowledge to be embedded within lessons, with engaging, hands-on activities where children work collaboratively and are encouraged to ask their own questions and are given opportunities to research to discover the answers. We take full advantage of our wonderful local area, with lessons taking place outdoors whenever relevant and possible. These varied, first-hand experiences make learning meaningful and help develop an early awareness of the importance of the environment and how to look after it. Our intention is for all children to leave All Saints with the ability to critically evaluate evidence, and equipped with the scientific knowledge and enquiry skills that will enable them to understand the uses and implications of science, now and in the future.

We realise that God’s fullness for us is shown in the gift of creation. This first value takes us back to God, the giver of abundant life. Now more than ever, our call to steward God’s creation is of upmost importance: not least to our young people. We focus on creating a community in which all are known, valued and given space to thrive and find abundance. From that secure base within a safe environment, we encourage our children to look out to the world with compassion. With the skills they have learnt, they can take the abundance of their education out to life beyond our school grounds, with the confidence to speak out and excel.
